Beginner Lesson 1 -
The Prodigal Son
Writing Lesson
The Parable of the Prodigal Son is found in Luke 15, verses 11-32. This is part six of Beginner Lesson 1, or you can do it as an individual writing exercise.
For this exercise, I want you to write five sentences using the simple past tense. They can be very short sentences, that is fine!
You might think of a sentence that uses an irregular verb, and that’s okay, too. If you know that the verb is irregular, you can use it!
Ideas for Your Sentences
If you need some ideas, here is a list of regular verbs:
play, want, walk, type, pull, cook, work, climb, brush, pick, turn, look, watch, close, open
Your sentences can be very short, or very long! It’s up to you. The more words you write, the more you will learn.
Start With a Capital Letter
and End With a Period
Remember, English uses the Roman alphabet. This alphabet has two forms of every letter:
the small letters (also called “lower case,” or “miniscule”)
capital letters (also called “upper case,” or “majescule”)
Always start your sentences with a capital letter. At the end, put a period. Or a question mark, or an exclamation point! Try writing a question in the simple past. Try a negative sentence. Have fun with this! Don’t forget to check any word you don’t know with WordReference.com, so you can learn extra vocabulary as you practice.
