English Grammar Can Be Easy!
Yes! It’s true. I want to convince you that learning English grammar is not difficult. Yes, there are some strange rules, and we will learn them. But if you compare English grammar to other languages, it is easier. Here’s why I say that:
No Gender
English does not have gender. A car is not masculine or feminine, it is simply a car.
Because of this, adjectives do not have to match the noun, even if the noun is plural. Blue car, blue cars, blue flower, blue shoes – the adjective is always the same.
English Only Has Three Articles
There are only three English articles, really only two – “the” and “a.” You probably know that “a” changes to “an” before a word that starts with a vowel. So, you can say that English has three articles – “the,” “a,” and “an.” No gender necessary!
Plurals Are Easy
No gender also means that usually all you have to do to make a noun plural is to add an “s.” English does have strange spelling rules, but we will learn them. You can make plurals very easily in English!
English Verbs Don't Usually Change
English verbs don’t usually change because of the subject you use. The exception is for the third person singular in some present tenses. Even here, many times you just have to add an “s.” But all other subjects use the same verb.
There are some irregular ways to spell verbs, but that happens in many languages. No worries! We will learn many of these irregular verbs, too.
Pronunciation and Spelling
English can be difficult to pronounce and to spell. Sometimes there are also strange rules about how to put a sentence together. But we will learn all these things!
In this section, we will continue to add grammar lessons about verbs, spelling, punctuation, and other things. You will also find the Grammar Exercises for your Self-Study Lessons.
Remember, even though English grammar can be “quirky,” which means that it can seem very strange, we are going to learn why it is actually easier than other languages.
