Pronounce P and B in American English
Now that you know a little more about stop consonants, let’s learn to pronounce p and b.
P and B Have the Same Mouth Position
We study p and b together because they have the same mouth position.
To make these sounds, use your lips to stop the air. Your tongue should be relaxed on the bottom of your mouth, and your teeth will be apart just a little bit, even though your lips are closed. Try it with me.
P is just a puff of air, but with b, you’ll add your voice. Place your hand on your throat when you say b, and make sure you feel your vocal cords vibrating.
