Easy English Speaking
Easy English speaking? Yes! Speaking in English can be easy to learn, especially if your goal is to have casual conversations.
I'm Nervous to Speak in English
Language learners traditionally have the least confidence in their speaking ability, no matter what language they are learning. There are many reasons for this. When you were a child, learning your first language, you learned the sounds specific to that language. A new language will typically have sounds you never had to learn as a child. This is one reason speaking may seem difficult.
The Spelling Doesn't Match the Pronunciation!
It’s true – and this is another big reason English learners have difficulty pronouncing English words.
English is a mish-mash of many languages. The British Isles were invaded and conquered again and again over the centuries by people who brought their own language with them. English explorers also took their language to many other places, like Australia and South Africa. In those places, it blended with the native languages of the people who lived there.
The best way to learn how to speak in English is to practice the same kind of English that is spoken in the place you live, or in the place you would like to live someday.
Gutenberg's Printing Press
Then, with the invention of Gutenberg’s printing press around 1440, English words were permanently written in ink for the world to see. Because of this, the spelling of the word has not changed over time, though the pronunciation has.
That's Great, But How Can I Speak English Better?
Do you know how to improve your English speaking skills? Practice! If you don’t have an English conversation partner, you can use YouTube videos! Find a video with accurate captions, turn them on, and try to say the words along with the speaker.
Try speaking with this video that will also quiz you about the Parables of Jesus.
No doubt about it – this can be difficult! But don’t get discouraged. Keep practicing and you will notice a big improvement very soon.
